Farewell to Karen and welcome back to Jemma

Karen MiddlemissKaren Middlemiss, Member Support Manager

After 22 years of dedicated and loyal service our wonderful Support Manager, Karen Middlemiss retired from the charity on 10th June 2021.  Karen felt extremely privileged to be part of so many peoples lives and proud of what she achieved during her years of service. We will all miss her wonderful, inspirational presence at the Centre.

Chair of Trustees, Gavin Davis, paid tribute to Karen’s exceptional service at KMSTC, “It was telling to me and I am sure others that the news of Karen’s retirement, when it broke, elicited the same response. There was a universal sense that this news heralded the end of an era. This is absolutely the case, Karen has been an intrinsic part of the management of the centre for over two decades and in that time helped guide and develop monumental changes to improve the facilities, services and support available at the Centre to our members. She has consistently done so in her characteristic calm and loving way always demonstrating her deep insights and knowledge of MS and a host of other varied and complicated conditions. The passion and implicit knowledge that Karen has demonstrated in service of our centre and members have been unparalleled and our gratitude for this will be carved into the Centre’s history. On behalf of the Board and all who work and use the centre I would like to take this opportunity to thank Karen for her many years of unstinting support and wish her a very long and happy retirement. The Centre doors will remain open to her and we very much look forward to seeing her in the future.”

Jemma Pask, Member Support Officer

Jemma will be re-joining the Centre team from Monday, 21st June as our Member Support Officer.  This is a newly created, member facing role that encompasses many of Karen’s former responsibilities. Jemma will be working full time, Monday – Friday, and she will be responsible for providing member support, carrying out new member/client assessments, referrals and applications, as well as continuing to develop our on-line Click and Connect programme.

You may remember that Jemma was a former receptionist at the Centre back in 2019/20.  Jemma comes to us from a social prescribing position within the NHS and her wonderful personality and skillset will be a great fit here at the Centre in her new role as our Member Support Officer.
